My work space – the before and the first after

a boutique style craft room

I was fiddling around with a new blog page just for room renovation posts, and realized my favorite room makeover of all time is totally missing!  For the past year this room has been my haven of peace and quiet, my place to splash paint and litter fabric scraps to my little heart’s content, to squirrel away more crafty junk than my Mister should ever know exists in my possession, and my mommy version of playing princess. Oh yes. I’m a firm believer in doing dress rehearsals for dreams and goals. In a perfect world, I would have a cheerful little shop on a sunny side street just bursting with random bits of interesting things, and pretty this and thats to wear, and piles of books to pour over, and cozy nooks to sit and read (or write blogs if you were into that sort of thing), and generally just the … Continue reading

Patience pays off – $12 Desk Makeover

painted desk by chapter37

I came to a sobering realization a few weeks ago. If I am ever to learn the art of proper book keeping, aside from tossing papers into the large fruit basket in my dining room, I need a desk for that specific purpose. My paper work needs a place to be sorted and to live. If something has it’s own place, than I am fanatical about keeping it in that place and organizational utopia ensues…except for when the Mister can’t find whatever it is I put away, and I haven’t the faintest idea where I might have put it. Not that that ever happens. I set off with my two little sidekicks in tow, to scour the country far and wide for a desk with a price tag as close to zero as possible. Nothing like having realistic expectations. I quickly found that the my thrift store circuit was going to get … Continue reading

A peek into the workshop – my salvaged sitting area

craft room at chapter37

This post instantly puts a song in my head from My Fair Lady. I want to twirl around with a basket of flowers in the middle of the street and sing… All I want is a room somewhere… Far away from the cold night air. With one enormous chair, Aow wouldn’t it be lovely? Lots of chocolates for me to eat, lots of coal makin’ lots of heat, warm face, warm hands, warm feet, Aow wouldn’t it be lovely? Aow so lovely sittin’ abso-bloomin-lutley still. I would never budge ’till Spring… Crept over me windowsill… In the interest of preserving my neighbors from the indignation of seeing me twirl in the streets, I’ll resist the urge and leave it to my imagination. Shall I tell you where these lovely little delights of mine came from? I know you’re just perishing to know, so lets start with the mirror. I got … Continue reading

Imperfections

Imperfections

Once I had craft room walls that looked like this. Well, actually, this is after I tore off termite infested paneling, so this is actually an improvement to the original. After much (and I do mean much!) indecision on what to do with the walls, they now look like this. I had a few miss steps with this wall (as in, I painted three times!), because I started out with intention of hiding the ugly imperfections of the cinder blocks. In the end, I found that by high lighting what I was trying to hide, the grout lines, I truly loved the uniqueness of the wall. Since then, I’ve been tempted to repaint it yet again, to make a solid background color for pictures. I just can’t pursued myself to do it, because really, who does like to paint a wall FOUR times! Ha, no really, the reason I haven’t repainted … Continue reading
